The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday ordered the removal of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman, citing that his appointment was not made in accordance with the rules and law.

The IHC chief justice Babar Sattar announced the verdict by issuing a reserved judgment comprising 99 pages.

The court accepted a petition challenging the appointment of Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman as PTA Chairman, highlighting that the selection process was flawed and did not comply with legal requirements. In its ruling, the IHC declared the appointment “not legally valid” and instructed that the chairman be removed from office immediately.

To ensure continuity in leadership, the court further directed that a senior member of the PTA be appointed as the acting chairman until a permanent appointment is made through proper legal procedures.
