DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on Afghanistan’s All-rounder Mohammad Nabi, for violating the Code of Conduct during a match against South Africa at the T20 World Cup.

According to a statement by ICC, the senior Afghan cricketer Nabi has been fined 15 percent of his match fee as he breached the code of conduct during Wednesday’s group D contest. This breach took place during the commencement of the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings as Nabi held a long conversation with the umpires regarding South African bowler Lungi Ngidi’s wrist band.

The ICC judged Nabi to have committed an offense by breaking Article 2.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which focuses on dissent against the umpire’s instructions regarding an international match.

Besides the fine, a demerit point will be added to Nabi’s disciplinary record.

The confirmation from the ICC was that Nabi admitted to the offense, and as he accepted the penalty as proposed by the match referee, there was no need for any formal hearing.

One must note that Afghanistan suffered a heartbreaking loss against South Africa, which was decided with a double Super Over finish at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, during the Men’s T20 world cup.
