PESHAWAR: A sharp increase in cold weather has led to a significant rise in respiratory and chest-related illnesses across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, according to a health department report.

Hospitals throughout the province report increasing numbers of patients who experience breathing difficulties, resulting in full capacity in their treatment areas.

The Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response IDSR report from the Health Department recorded 8642 respiratory illness cases for the period between January 12 and January 18. The highest number of cases was reported in Charsadda, where 2,573 people were affected.

The other cities experienced fewer cases with Haripur at 2554 cases Swabi at 780 cases Battagram at 583 cases Peshawar at 535 cases Mardan at 324 cases Swat at 287 cases Abbottabad at 235 cases and Mohmand at 299 cases. The report showed that January witnessed approximately 8462 reported cases during its initial week. The previous three weeks have shown numerous reported cases of influenza.

The epidemiological report shows that the last two weeks recorded approximately 12000 influenza cases which included 6054 cases and 6190 cases.

Police arrest two famous TikTokers in Peshawar

Meanwhile, Peshawar police have arrested two well-known TikTokers for allegedly creating and sharing immoral content on social media.

According to police, the arrests were made on the directives of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed. The operation was carried out under the supervision of DSP Circle Umar Afridi, while SHO Police Station Iftikhar Ahmed led the raid.

The suspects, identified as Sajid alias Bugay and Nasir Khalil, were allegedly involved in producing and circulating unethical videos that went viral on social media platforms.

Cases have been registered against both suspects, and further investigation is underway.

Police said the Capital City Police Peshawar will continue indiscriminate action against the misuse of social media and remain committed to safeguarding societal values.
