PESHAWAR: A heartwarming story has emerged from a refugee camp in Jamrud, where a baby girl was born in a makeshift tent. The newborn has been named Aman Bibi, symbolizing hope for peace and goodwill between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

According to Daily Mashriq report, the baby was born in the camp of Afghan refugees on the Pak-Afghan Highway in Jamrud. The Torkham border has closed because of increasing Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions which have left Afghan refugees stuck at the Pakistani border. A family of refugees, waiting to return to Afghanistan, gave birth to a baby girl during their stay in the camp.

The mother and her newborn baby both show good health according to health reports about them. Local residents provided essential facilities to the family after the birth to protect the health of both mother and child.

The local people explain that the name “Aman Bibi” (Peace Woman) serves as a symbol of hope which generates a wish for peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The two countries that currently experience border disputes and political tensions receive this act as a demonstration of friendship which brings forth a desire for better times ahead.

The Torkham border closure has created major problems for Afghan refugees who number in the hundreds and include women and children and who now wait for the border to open so they can return home. Many refugees stay in Jamrud because they want to return to Afghanistan when the conditions become stable.
