Sore throat is a common and often painful condition that can make eating, drinking, and even speaking uncomfortable.

Experts say several home remedies can help reduce the discomfort, though they do not provide an instant cure. Individuals whose symptoms persist should consult a doctor.

Honey: Honey has anti-inflammatory properties and is used in some countries, including Croatia, as a therapeutic agent. It can help soothe the inflammation that causes throat pain.

Tea: Drinking green tea, lemon tea, or turmeric tea can also relieve sore throat symptoms. Adding honey to these teas can enhance their effect, while the warmth of the beverage itself helps reduce irritation.

Cold Foods: Some people find relief from cold items such as ice cream, which can temporarily ease throat pain. However, if discomfort increases after consumption, this remedy should be avoided.

Saltwater Gargle: Gargling with warm water mixed with salt and baking soda several times a day can reduce soreness and inflammation, according to medical specialists.

Mint: Mint is considered anti-inflammatory and can be consumed in food or tea to help reduce throat discomfort.

Garlic: Garlic’s antibacterial properties can combat infections. Chewing a small piece of garlic for 15 minutes, or combining it with honey, can provide relief from a sore throat.

Doctors emphasise that while these remedies help manage discomfort, persistent sore throat should be evaluated professionally to rule out underlying conditions.
