ABBOTTABAD: Strike of Abbottabad General Bus Terminal Transporters across Hazara over a dispute with TMA has been postponed for three days after the efforts of the representative Jirga.

During the complete wheel jam strike, TMA operated carry-on buses for Rawalpindi-Islamabad and Suzuki vehicles on the Haripur route; however, the double fare collection continued under government patronage. On Monday, a strike call was given across Hazara by Muttahida Transport Hazara Chairman Qazi Muhammad Farooq and others, due to which vehicles on the inter-district route from Abbottabad were completely boycotted. Throughout the day, owners of carry-on buses and other small vehicles at the General Bus Terminal charged double fare from passengers.

Due to the inconvenience faced by the citizens and passengers, the representative jirga of the city’s leading people has negotiated with the transport union and postponed the strike for three days. On this occasion, All Traders Federation President Sardar Shahnawaz, General Secretary Sajjad Khan, Ali Asghar Group President Saqib Khan, Sardar Sherdil, Naseer Khan Jadoon, Sardar Muhammad Saeed, and other leaders have assured to try to resolve the issues between TMA and Transport Union through mutual understanding.

Transport Union leaders Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Wajid Khan, and others announced to postpone the strike for three days, keeping in mind the difficulties of the citizens. He also paid tribute to those who made efforts to resolve the issue.

It may be recalled that a deadlock arose between TMA Abbottabad and the Transport Union over the increase in taxes, and the transporters opposed the TMA’s management of the depot. After the failure of negotiations with the Deputy Commissioner, the transporters went on a complete strike on Monday, which was 100 percent successful, while the TMA parked local route vehicles at the depot, which charged double fares on the go and looted the compelled people, collecting Rs 800 per ride instead of Rs 530 for Rawalpindi and Haripur.
