ISLAMABAD: The debate on the school holiday calendar is still ongoing, with the government’s new proposal still facing resistance from the concerned stakeholders.

According to reports, the government has suggested a new school calendar that contains 76 summer vacation days and 17 winter vacation days. The school calendar debate remains active because stakeholders involved in the process have not yet reached an agreement on the proposed calendar.

The school calendar debate continues because the involved parties have not reached an agreement on the proposed school calendar which includes the government’s latest school calendar proposal that specifies summer and winter vacation days.

It is stated that the concerned stakeholders are still unable to agree on the proposed school calendar, with the government still unable to make an official announcement on the proposed school calendar, as the debate on the school calendar is still ongoing.

Government announces public holidays for Eid ul Fitr

Meanwhile, the federal government on Sunday announced March 20 and 21 as public holidays for Eid ul Fitr.

According ot a notification issued by the cabinet division, Eid al-Fitr official holidays have been announced across the country on March 20 and 21.

It said Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has approved public holidays on March 20 and 21, 2026, in observance of Eid al-Fitr.

According to a notification, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 will be official holidays for Eid al-Fitr. The Eid al-Fitr holidays apply to all government offices operating on a five-day or six-day work week.

The Cabinet Division has also issued an official notification of public holidays on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
