ISLAMABAD: The government has ordered a complete verification of Afghan nationals residing in the federal capital who possess Pakistani identity cards, officials said.

Special teams have been formed to check and authenticate suspected identity cards. Islamabad Police have been directed to question Afghan cardholders and verify their records.

The Ministry of Interior has also accelerated the process of blocking and confirming Pakistani identity cards held by Afghan nationals.

According to the official instructions, police station officers (SHOs) are responsible for backtracking the records of Afghan residents in their jurisdictions and ensuring that all Afghan nationals with valid visas are properly mapped. The authorities are also expediting the mapping of Afghan visa holders across Islamabad to ensure accurate records.

Afghan national arrested in Islamabad with fake US Embassy ID

Last year on December 17, an Afghan national was arrested in Islamabad, who attempted to enter the United States Embassy while using a fake Identity card.

An Afghan national named Haris was arrested in Islamabad for using a fake US Embassy ID to impersonate an employee. Sources indicate that he was also wanted by the Islamabad police in connection with various fraud cases. Haris was apprehended while attempting to enter the Diplomatic Enclave, and he is currently in police custody.

According to reports, Haris was known for creating counterfeit identification cards and pretending to be an official from the embassy. The US Embassy had previously filed a complaint regarding his activities, and police, along with intelligence officials, successfully identified him.

Haris was found entering the Diplomatic Enclave accompanied by two women in a vehicle. His arrest was carried out with the assistance of intelligence agencies, and he has since been transferred to the Secretariat police station for further processing.
