The National Assembly has approved the Army Act 2025, and according to the new Army Act 2025, the tenure of the Chief of Defence Forces will be five years.
This legislation was made after the 27th Constitutional Amendment, under which the post of Chief of Defense Forces has gained formal legal status in Pakistan. According to sources, a new notification of Army Chief Syed Asim Munir as Chief of Defense Forces will be issued, under which his tenure will resume.
According to the proposed act, the Chief of Defense Forces will have the authority to restructure and integrate all operational and strategic affairs of the Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force. According to sources, the federal cabinet approved amendments to six laws, including the Services Acts of the three armed forces, in the context of the amendment to Article 243.
Under the amendment, the posts of Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air and Admiral of the Fleet were provided with legal protection. Along with this, approval has also been given to bring a separate law for the establishment of the post of Commander of the National Strategic Command.
According to sources, approval has also been given to bring a bill for new legislation related to the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court. After the cabinet approval, all the bills were presented in the National Assembly, which will also be sent to the Senate after approval.
It should be noted that after the 27th Constitutional Amendment, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir was appointed as the first Chief of Defense Forces of Pakistan. This new military structure has been given constitutional status through a constitutional amendment, which aims to improve coordination among defense institutions and strengthen the national security system.
