ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Monday announced a public holiday on February 5 to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day across the country.

According to the notification issued by the federal government, the government has declared a public holiday across the country on February 5 to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day.

It said a minute’s silence will be observed at 10 am on that day to express solidarity with the Kashmiri brethren.

On August 5, 2019, India revoked the special status of occupied Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcated the region into two federal units. After this, a complete lockdown and curfew were imposed in occupied Kashmir, which is still partially or fully in force.

The people of occupied Kashmir are facing difficulties due to the shutdown of the communication system and are limited in their contact with their families. Limited mobile data and internet services were temporarily restored last month, but the people are still facing several problems.
