The Punjab government has declared February 6 a holiday in Lahore to celebrate Basant, following a recommendation from the district administration. This announcement comes after the district administration issued the relevant suggestions.
The holiday on February 6 (Friday), in conjunction with Kashmir Day on February 5 (Thursday), creates a four-day weekend, as Saturday and Sunday are already designated as weekly off days. Officials noted that Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday holidays were previously arranged, and the government has now added Friday as an additional holiday.
The aim of this measure is to alleviate traffic congestion during the celebrations and to provide a safe environment for attendees. The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore has issued a directive stating that children below 18 years of age are allowed to participate in Basant celebrations, provided they are accompanied by family members, ensuring safety and order during this traditional event.
He also mentioned that the government and other relevant departments would work to ensure that citizens can enjoy the festival in a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
