ISLAMABAD: The government has started preparations to provide further relief to consumers to make electricity cheaper. NEPRA issued a notification in this regard on Thursday.

According to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), electricity has been made cheaper by 93 paisa per unit for the entire country under the monthly adjustment for November.
NEPRA has also issued a notification to make electricity cheaper, which states that consumers across the country, including Karachi, will get relief in their bills for January.
According to the issued notification, the reduction in the price of electricity per unit will not apply to lifeline consumers.
It should be remembered that the Central Purchasing Power Agency (CPPA) had requested NEPRA to reduce the price of electricity last month as part of the monthly fuel adjustment.
The NEPRA authority held a hearing on the application regarding the reduction in the price of electricity. According to sources, electricity was likely to be cheaper by 72 paise per unit, which was reduced to 93 paise.
The CPPA application also provided figures, according to which 7.81 billion 30 million units of electricity were supplied to the DISCOs in November. The cost of electricity per unit was Rs. 6.16 per paisa, 39.16 per cent of electricity was generated from hydropower in November, and 9.34 per cent from local coal.
