ISLAMABAD: Google has strongly recommended the users of its Chrome web browser to update it immediately after the release of a critical security update.
The fix is going to make the browser safe by patching vulnerabilities that were discovered in the browser recently. These vulnerabilities were the ones that the hackers were going to use against the users’ systems if the browser was not updated.
Saying that, Google the tech giant declared that very many weaknesses were located during the analysis of the latest Chrome builds and this new patch was out to take care of them. However, the company has done so without disclosing any specific information concerning the security matters.
Nevertheless, the company has made it clear that some of the weaknesses are major and if they are not patched up they will certainly jeopardize both the privacy and security of the users online.
It is the Google Chrome that has the largest share in web browsers usage worldwide; its being the most widely used web browser in the world, the massive user community can lead to the quick security problems in Chrome becoming an issue of great significance if not addressed in time.
In most cases, Chrome gets updated without any user intervention. To do a manual check, just click on the three-dot menu, navigate to Settings and click on About Chrome. The update being found will result in an automatic download, and the updating of the browser will then occur via a restart.
Why Google AI’s medical advice is dangerous for health?
A study has revealed that Google’s AI overviews are giving dangerous and incorrect information on health matters.
A study by a British newspaper has revealed that Google’s artificial intelligence-based AI overviews, which are shown at the beginning of search results, are providing incorrect and dangerous information on some health matters that can pose a serious risk to patients.
The report said that in one example, Google’s AI advised pancreatic cancer patients to avoid a high-fat diet, which experts described as medically incorrect and said that it could worsen the patient’s condition. Similarly, the information given regarding liver function tests was also flawed, due to which people suffering from serious illnesses may consider themselves healthy.
Health and welfare experts have warned that such misinformation can divert patients from timely treatment and, in some cases, can even prove fatal. Sophie Randall, director of the Patients’ Rights Forum, says that Google’s AI overviews appear to provide convenience, but misinformation can pose a risk to users’ health. Similarly, Stephanie Parker, a representative of the Marie Curie charity, said that people rely on the internet when they are sick or worried, and if the information is wrong, the damage is multiplied.
According to The Guardian, AI overviews’ advice on psychology and dietary habits can also prove dangerous. Google responded by saying that most AI overviews are accurate and helpful and that the company is constantly working to improve quality.
