SWABI (Istikhar Ahmad): Students at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK) launched a massive protest on Sunday, blocking the main road in front of the university gate following the discovery of a fellow student’s body.
The unrest began after a student was found hanging in his hostel room during Sehri time. Outraged students gathered at the university’s main entrance, suspending all types of traffic to demand justice and improved campus facilities.
Protesters alleged that the student’s life could have been saved if the university ambulance had arrived on time. They further criticised the GIK hospital for a lack of essential medical equipment, stating that the absence of a ventilator and other life-saving facilities contributed to the tragic outcome.
The protesting students are demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and calling for strict disciplinary action against the hostel warden and other administration officials deemed responsible for the perceived negligence. They have announced that the road blockade and protest will continue until their demands for better medical services and accountability are met.
