ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Sahir Shamsad Mirza, paid a farewell visit to Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he met with Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Noid Ashraf.
In an ISPR statement, General Mirza praised the Pakistan Navy’s war preparation and stressed their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the country’s maritime boundaries. The Naval Chief thanked General Mirza for his cooperation in enhancing joint operations among the three services. As part of the farewell ceremony, General Sahir Shamsad Mirza was presented with a Guard of Honour upon his arrival at the Naval Headquarters. General Mirza is set to retire on November 27, 2025, after a three-year tenure as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, which began on November 27, 2022.
It is important to mention that he will be the last person to hold this position as a result of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which will abolish the role. He assumed the post under Article 243 and applicable military laws, succeeding General Nadeem Reza. Although the CJCSC is the highest military rank, it primarily involves coordination and policy advisory duties. Eliminating this role upon retirement will bring a significant change to Pakistan’s military leadership structure.
