PESHAWAR: Ali Amin Gandapur, became the fifth-shortest serving Chief Minister in the history of the state when he took the office in less than two years.

According to details, Gandapur was elected as Chief Minister on March 1, 2024 and swore in on March 2, 2024, after the general elections in which the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had won majority in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.

When Gandapur is driven out of office, he is the fifth leader of KP in the history of the province to have had a term of less than two years.

Pir Sabir Shah of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was the shortest Chief Minister in KP history to hold office at four months and five days from October 20, 1993, through February 25, 1994.

Similarly, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, who stayed for one year, seven months and 25 days from December 2, 1988 to August 7, 1990.

Third is the 11 months and 15 days of Mufti Mehmood of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) whose tenure was from March 1 1972 to February 15, 1973.

Fourth is Sardar Inayatullah Gandapur of PPP who held office in the Chief Minister for one year, ten months, and 17 days from April 29, 1973 to February 16, 1975.

Ali Amin Gandapur is next to have added to the club as he served a total of about one year and seven months before his ouster, becoming the fifth Chief Minister in the history of KP to have served as such less than two years.
