ISLAMABAD: Are you suffering from extreme sleepiness during the day even after a full night’s sleep? If that is the case, you might have a rare sleep disorder called Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH).
The people who are afflicted with such a disease have to sleep for very long hours, but they still obtain no feeling of refreshment upon waking and also, as a rule, experience disorientation and have trouble focusing.
The worldwide charity Hypersomnolence UK based in the UK reported that less than one person out of 25,000 is diagnosed with this disease in the UK. The majority of them remain unaware due to a lack of medical recognition which leaves thousands of affected people in the dark.
Studies take the lead in speculating that idiopathic hypersomnia may imitate signs of epilepsy or bipolar disorder, which makes the identification of the condition difficult.

The exact causes of IH are still a question to doctors. They guess it could be a problem in the brain. At the moment, no cure has been found for the disorder though there are some medications to relieve symptoms and make life better.
