QUETTA: Pakistani weightlifter Kashif Rehan has won a gold medal in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Cash issues aside, Kashif made a total lift of 310 kilograms where he pulled 160 kg deadlift and 150 kg squat to grab the gold medal.

Kashif,​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ who took part in the tournament by borrowing money to pay for his trip, went head to head with more than 350 weightlifters from different countries. The World Powerlifting Championship, held from November 27 to 30, 2025, was the stage where the best athletes from the entire world fought for the top spot in the ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌sport.

This victory has been followed by his victory at the weightlifting event in Qatar where he had won the gold medal during the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship earlier this year Nevertheless, Kashif is very tight all the time and its continuation even after his victories. Before the World Powerlifting Championship, he revealed that he needed to take a loan to pay for his trip to Sri Lanka as he was not granted funding by the government.

Kashif in a previous interview confided in the reporter that he sold his car to finance his trip to Doha for the Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship because there were no official funds provided. His commitment to the sport has given him the spotlight which also brings into focus the plight of Pakistani athletes in international competitions.

Ahead of the World Powerlifting Championships, Kashif was talking about the hardships in life and the problem of taking a loan to pay for his trip to the event in the island country because he did not get help from the government which was a reply to government funding.

Kashif’s shining accomplishments during the rough time have served as an inspirational light to many in Pakistan that with will and determination one can conquer any ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌mountain
