The joyous occasion of Eid ul Fitr has been marred by an acute energy crisis in Bisham and across the Shangla district, as prolonged and unannounced power outages left thousands of residents in the dark.

The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) announced that there will be no power outage during Eid ul Fitre, but it has failed to implement its order.

The power outage continued in Bisham city and other parts of Shangla, which has marred the Eid preparations on Chand Raat.

Despite the district’s significant contribution of approximately 90 megawatts to the national grid through local hydropower projects, the community continues to suffer from load-shedding lasting between 12 and 20 hours a day.

Local residents and traders in Bisham expressed deep frustration, noting that the electricity supply often vanishes during critical festive hours.

The outages have not only dampened the celebratory spirit but also crippled local businesses, particularly those dependent on refrigeration and electronic services.

Community leaders have termed the situation “blatant discrimination,” pointing out that while Shangla’s rivers power major cities like Islamabad, the local population is denied even its minimal requirement of seven megawatts.
