MALAKAND: Forest Department Malakand in a major operation recovers smuggled timber and registered cases against the accused persons.

Local sources said major operation was carried out by the Forest Department in Malakand district against timber smuggling. The operations were carried out at various locations near Malik Ahmed Khan Baba Interchange, during which teams of the Forest Department recovered hundreds of valuable timber that were being smuggled.

‎According to the Forest Department, acting on a tip-off, the forces stopped various vehicles during checking, on which trucks and Datsun pick-ups loaded with timber were recovered. Initial investigation has revealed that the timber was being illegally cut from nearby forests and smuggled.

‎Forest Officer (Malik Ahmed Khan Baba Range) while talking to the media said that the Forest Department will not tolerate illegal logging and smuggling of valuable forest resources under any circumstances. He further said that cases have been registered against the involved elements and investigation is underway.

‎The residents of the area have appreciated the timely action of the Forest Department and expressed hope that such steps will be helpful in the protection of forests.
