The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt are set to arrive in Islamabad tomorrow for a high-stakes consultative mission.
This “quadrilateral” meeting marks a significant effort by regional powerhouses to address the escalating war in the Middle East and de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran.
The visit, spanning March 29 to 30, follows an invitation from Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar. The visiting dignitaries include Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud (Saudi Arabia),Hakan Fidan (Turkiye),Dr. Badr Abdelatty (Egypt).
According to the Foreign Office, the ministers will engage in “in-depth discussions” focused on regional stability, a political settlement for the ongoing conflict, and the restoration of maritime safety in the Strait of Hormuz.
Islamabad has increasingly emerged as a neutral ground for indirect communication between Washington and Tehran. Sources indicate that Iran has passed a response to US President Donald Trump’s “15-point peace plan” via Pakistani channels.
Turkish FM Hakan Fidan revealed that the meeting was originally scheduled for Ankara, but was moved to Islamabad as the Pakistani leadership was required to remain in the country. This shift underscores Pakistan’s central role in the current diplomatic landscape.
