Flood affected Farmers in Buner face financial difficulties, agriculture sector faces crisis of revival as flood and rising inflation have broken the backs of farmers.

Flood affected  Farmers in Buner district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are  facing severe financial difficulties. The lack of adequate steps at the government level to revive the agriculture sector in the area has caused great distress to the farming community.

‎According to farmers, the continuous increase in the prices of seeds, fertilizers and diesel has made farming extremely difficult. Lack of rainfall and power load shedding have also affected the irrigation system, resulting in reduced crop production.

‎A local farmer, Muhammad Saleem, said, “We want to continue working on our lands, but the flood  have increased cost and farming has become a loss-making business.”

‎Farmers say that it has been made difficult to get loans from agricultural banks, while the relief packages announced by the government are limited to paper claims only.

‎Farmers complained that the district administration has neither provided any subsidy nor made it possible to provide agricultural equipment.

‎According to experts, if the situation continues like this, there is a risk of large agricultural lands in Buner becoming barren in the coming season. This will not only affect the economy of farmers but may also lead to food shortages in local markets.

Flood affected ‎Farmers have demanded that the provincial government and the agriculture department immediately release relief funds, provide subsidies on fertilizers and seeds, and make the process of obtaining agricultural loans easier so that the agricultural sector of Buner can revive.
