PESHAWAR: Five police personnel were injured on Wednesday night after unknown assailants hurled a hand grenade at the Sarakhora check post in the Matni area on the outskirts of Peshawar city.

According to police officials, the attackers targeted the Sarakhora Chowki and fled the scene immediately after the explosion. The injured personnel, Rahmzada, Kamran, Momol, Arif, and Ajmal, were transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.

A police spokesperson stated that the personnel on duty acted swiftly and responded “immediately and vigorously” to the assault, though the perpetrators managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Following the blast, a heavy contingent of police, including senior officials, reached the site to cordon off the area. Security across the Matni region has been placed on high alert, and a search operation has been launched in the surrounding localities to apprehend the suspects involved in the attack. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the incident.
