KARACHI: A fire incident occurred in Gul Plaza, located on MA Jinnah Road in Karachi, resulting in two dead persons confirmed and at least eight other persons injured, who have been transferred to nearby hospitals in critical condition.

Rescue personnel reported that there are several people still supposedly stuck in the building. It is said that the fire started on the floor where the stairs lead down and up and the building has ground, upper ground, and two more floors. Fire has also caused damage to shop.

According to fire brigade officials, firefighters require the services of 8 fire trucks, a snorkel, and a water bowser in order to extinguish the fire.

As per the reports from the market side, Gul Plaza possesses over a thousand retail outlets, which complicates the operation of rescue. The officials are still working on the evacuation of those who are trapped and the control of the whole situation.

23 killed as fire breaks out in nightclub in India’s Goa

On December 7, at least 23 people were killed after a fire broke out in a nightclub in the Indian state of Goa, according to international media reports.

The fire was caused by a cylinder blast inside the nightclub situated in Arpora district. The casualties comprise tourists along with staff members who were, at the location when the event occurred.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has commanded an inquiry instructing authorities to verify if fire safety measures and construction rules were adhered to. He promised measures, against anyone deemed negligent.

At the moment, the rescue mission has commenced, with the emergency squads engaged in clearing the site and searching for victims or the deceased.
