Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said that a provision related to the position of Field Marshal has been recommended in the proposed constitutional amendments, under which it is being considered whether this position should be made for life or not.

‎The Law Minister says that in the new constitutional amendment, matters related to the command of the armed forces and high military positions will also be presented before the Parliament.

‎He said that the recent Pak-India conflict has made us realize that the war strategy and defense structure have changed, keeping these changes in mind, a constitutional clarification is inevitable.

 

‎Azam Nazir Tarar further said that reforms have also been proposed in the system of appointment and transfer of judges. The power to transfer judges will be given to the Judicial Commission, while the Chief Justices of the concerned High Courts will also be included in the transfer process. Along with this, the amendment bill also proposes to set the retirement age of Constitutional Court judges at 68 years.

 

‎He said that efforts are also being made to remove the ambiguity regarding the Senate elections. According to the proposed amendments, it has been proposed to hold the election of Senate members across the country at the same time so that there is no delay or disruption in the election process.

 

‎The Federal Law Minister said that consideration is also being given to increasing the parliamentary representation of small provinces, increasing it from 11 percent to 13 percent, and a proposal has also been made to increase the number of unelected ministerial officials, advisors and special assistants.

‎He said that the proposed amendments will become part of the constitution only after being approved by a two-thirds majority. Consultations will also be held with the coalition parties today on the Article 140-A bill presented by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement regarding local government powers so that it can be approved by consensus.

‎Azam Nazir Tarar further said that the demand of Balochistan Awami Party leader Khalid Magsi to increase the number of constituencies in Balochistan will also be considered in the standing committee.

‎The Federal Law Minister further said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has identified internal differences within his party regarding the National Finance Commission.

‎Bilawal Bhutto has suggested to the government that the amendments on which there is consensus among all parties should be approved in the first phase, while the remaining matters should be postponed for later.
