PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Anti-Corruption Circle Peshawar has arrested two former officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for their alleged involvement in illegal recruitment.
According to an FIA statement issued on Friday, the arrested accused have been identified as Taimur Ahmed and Shahan Shah. Taimur Ahmed is a former assistant, while Shahan Shah was posted as a senior assistant in the ECP Peshawar.
Initial investigations revealed that Taimur Ahmed allegedly secured his appointment through illegal means by misusing his father’s influence. The FIA said Taimur Ahmed is the son of a former provincial election commissioner, and his recruitment was allegedly carried out in violation of merit.
The statement said that the accused were also involved in forgery and manipulation of official recruitment records to facilitate the unlawful appointment. It was further alleged that Shahanshah played a key role in facilitating the illegal recruitment by abusing his official position.
The FIA said both accused had been taken into custody and a formal investigation had been launched to determine the full scope of the offence and identify other individuals involved in the case.
The agency reiterated its commitment to cracking down on violations of merit, misuse of authority and corruption in public institutions. It said all available resources were being utilised to arrest those involved in corrupt practices and to ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
