AHMEDABAD: Afghanistan cricket team captain Rashid Khan is being slammed by cricket lovers following the match against South Africa in an exciting match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which went into double Super Overs, but Afghanistan failed to emerge victorious.
Questions have also been raised regarding the leadership of Rashid Khan, who has been called “cowardly” because he was not seen bowling in the Super Over.

In the Group D match, Afghanistan batted second and tied their match against the South African team, with both teams getting 187 runs. In the first Super Over, the teams were tied as both teams had scored 17 runs each.
In the second Super Over, Afghanistan scored 24 runs, hence losing to the South African team.
The cause of the loss has also led to fresh debates on leadership skills as the fans demanded more forcefulness from spinner Rashid Khan.

Earlier, after a historical two super over competition, South Africa defeated Afghanistan with five runs while chasing 23 runs targets in the second super over competition.
The crucial match between South Africa and Afghanistan in Group D of the ICC T20 World Cup ended in a draw after a thrilling contest, due to which the result was announced to be decided through a super over. However, the super over was also tied. As a result, it was decided to make the match decisive through another super over. In which South Africa scored 23. In reply, Afghanistan could score 19 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Thus, South Africa won the game.
In the match played in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan won the toss and invited South Africa to bat first.
South Africa’s batting
The Proteas innings was opened by Adam Markram and Quinton de Kock, however, the team suffered an initial setback when Markram was caught out by Fazal Haq Farooqui at a total score of 12. After the fall of the initial wicket, De Kock and Ryan Rickelton took charge of the innings by showing responsibility. Both the batsmen fought back against the Afghan bowlers and completed their half-centuries in the same over.
Rickelton returned to the pavilion after scoring 61 runs, while De Kock scored 59 runs. Later, Dewald Brews was dismissed for 23 runs and David Miller for 20 runs. While chasing 23 runs, Afghanistan Rahmanullah Gurbaz hit three consecutive sixes after a wide, the total reached 19 runs when Gurbaz was caught out by South Africa to win the second super over competition with five runs.
