QUETTA: Reports claiming an attack on Mastung Central Jail and the release of multiple prisoners have been confirmed false by security sources.
Officials said videos circulating on social media, allegedly showing the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) carrying out the attack, are actually from 2021. These old videos are being shared to create confusion and panic.
At the same time, accounts reportedly linked to Indian intelligence (RAW) have been spreading false reports of attacks in Gwadar. Security authorities confirmed that these reports are fabricated, and the videos being shared are from unrelated incidents in other countries.
“None of these claims reflect the current situation on the ground,” a senior security official said. Authorities urged the public to rely only on verified sources and warned against sharing unverified information.
Security agencies described these activities as disinformation campaigns intended to spread fear, but confirmed that the situation in Mastung, Gwadar, and other regions remains normal.
Security sources confirm viral Bashir Zeb video is old footage filmed in Afghanistan
Similarly, the viral clip is being shared online alongside claims that it shows a recent movement by Bashir Zeb and his fighters inside Pakistan. The expert analysts and intelligence channels who investigate the content determine that the footage dates back several months ago which was filmed outside Pakistan’s borders, including militant group areas in Afghanistan, where they record material.
Officials familiar with the inquiry said that such videos are often reused and relabelled on social media to influence public perception and create confusion about ongoing security operations. The source said that current events on the ground require strict verification before online clips can be used to conclude the situation.
The BLA, which operates as a banned separatist organization, conducts violent attacks throughout Balochistan and its surrounding areas. The national media and security agencies have focused their attention on recent clashes which involved coordinated assaults across multiple districts.
The government and intelligence officials advise both citizens and media organizations to exercise caution by depending on official sources which provide authenticated news updates to prevent the dissemination of false information.
