NEW DELHI: An explosion close to the Red Fort Metro Station in New Delhi killed 10 people and hurt 24 others. The blast also caused a fire in the area and six cars along with three auto-rickshaws burned down.
An eyewitness named Dharmender said that a white Maruti car which was registered to a Mohammad Nadeem from Haryana was the car that was burning. He accused the officials of creating confusion in their statements and the media of lying about the type and ownership of the car. While Dharmender was sure that it was a Maruti, some officials and media sources said it was a Honda. Moreover, the name of the owner varied across the sources.
The explosion, which some social media users initially thought was a targeting Pakistan deliberately, is being referred to the bursting of a CNG cylinder, as per confirmations from several sources cited by Indian TV channel Republic.
Local witnesses have disputed the official version and therefore, have raised the issue of the government inaccurately reporting their statements and releasing contradictory statements themselves. No verification of evidence existed back then yet the users of social networks opened up and straightaway accused Pakistan.
The whole scenario of this unfortunate event reiterates the importance once more of carrying out comprehensive investigations and ascertaining the facts before passing any verdicts in the wake of such catastrophes.
