The Excise Department has recommended changing the number plates for large Sports Utility Vehicles(SUV) owing to security concerns and visibility, besides it also recommended colour number plates instead of traditional black and white.
According to the Excise Department, the number was not very clear due to the installation of small number plates in large vehicles. Additional Director General Rizwan Sherani has recommended that the number plates for large vehicles be changed, and the number plates are also recommended to be coloured instead of the traditional black and white.
The design of the new number plate will be prepared keeping in mind Safe City cameras and security features. According to the exercise sources, the regulatory process will be initiated after the design is approved.
It is pertinent to mention here that sometimes, due to low visibility and lack of camera detection, smugglers can take advantage of the chance to walk in non-custom paid vehicles while using a fake number plate.
