MELBOURNE: England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground win the fourth Test of the Ashes series against Australia by four wickets and thus put their name on the list of winners in the Australian Test matches for the first time in 15 years.
On the second day of the match, after the second innings, Australia got all out at a score of 132 which meant England had to chase 175 for the victory. The English team secured the runs in 33 overs, getting six of their batsmen out in the process.
Travis Head with 46 runs and skipper Steve Smith with 24 contributed the most to Australia’s second innings. The English bowlers were Brydon Carse with four wickets, Ben Stokes with three, and Josh Tong with two leading the pack.
Jacob Bethell with 40 runs, Zach Crawley with 37, and Ben Duckett with 34 were the main contributors to England’s batting who played the decisive parts in bringing the team home. Australian bowlers Jhye Richardson, Scott Boland, and Mitchell Starc took two wickets each.
This victory puts an end to 15 years of waiting for England in Australia. The series consisting of five matches now sees Australia leading by 3-1.
The first Test match held in Perth also got over on the second day causing a big blow to Cricket Australia.
