PESHAWAR: The Election Tribunal on Tuesday dismissed the election petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Taimur Saleem Jhagra from PK-79 Peshawar, upholding the victory of PML-N’s Jalal Khan. The tribunal issued a written decision confirming the outcome.

Taimur Saleem Jhagra had approached the tribunal seeking to nullify Jalal Khan’s victory, claiming that he had won by a large majority under Form 45, while the PML-N candidate was declared successful under Form 47. Before this, Jhagra had also applied with the Returning Officer, which was rejected, prompting him to take the matter to the Election Tribunal.

According to the lawyer representing PML-N, the petitioner ignored key legal points and made several procedural errors in the petition. Notably, the petitioner had misspelt his father’s name in the application and failed to meet other legal requirements. As per election rules, all facts in an election petition must be correctly documented for it to proceed.

On technical grounds, the tribunal dismissed Taimur Saleem Jhagra’s petition and validated Jalal Khan’s election victory in PK-79 Peshawar.
