ISLAMABAD: The foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, along with the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, issued a joint statement on Saturday welcoming Hamas’ positive reception of the peace proposal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The ministers also welcomed President Trump’s call for an immediate halt to Israeli airstrikes, and they supported the request for the start of implementing the exchange agreement.

The ministers appreciated the commitment toward peace in the region, calling the step a good gesture for reaching a ceasefire, noting that it is a significant opportunity to listen to complaints regarding the disastrous humanitarian situation of people in Gaza.  In addition, the ministers welcomed Hamas’ announcement that it is ready to transfer authority of Gaza to an interim technocratic committee.
