ISLAMABAD: The Meteorological Department has issued its weather forecast for Eid-ul-Fitr, predicting varying weather conditions across different regions of Pakistan during the holiday period. A new western disturbance is expected to enter the country on the evening of March 17, with rain and thunderstorms likely to occur from March 18 to March 20. The weather system will bring significant changes, with strong winds, lightning, and localized rainfall across the nation.
The Meteorological Department reports that the southern and south western regions, including various districts of Balochistan, will experience rainfall, with the possibility of hailstorms at certain locations between March 17 and March 20. Upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also expected to see rainfall, with snow predicted in higher altitudes.
In Punjab and Islamabad, intermittent rain showers are expected from the night of March 17 through March 20. Strong winds and hail are likely to affect areas such as Murree, Galyat, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad, while thunderstorms may disrupt local activities.
The forecast also indicates that cities in Sindh will experience rain and thunderstorms on March 18 and 19, with thunderstorms possibly affecting urban centres like Karachi and Hyderabad. Meanwhile, in the northern regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, snowfall is expected alongside rain showers.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of potential landslides in the hilly areas of northern Pakistan. Authorities are advising tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in these regions due to the risk of hazardous conditions.
Additionally, the department has cautioned that the weather system could harm crops due to hailstorms and strong winds, with a noticeable decrease in daytime temperatures. Farmers are being urged to take precautionary measures to protect their crops.
With the festive spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr, the weather conditions may cause disruptions to travel plans, especially for those planning to visit mountainous regions or attend outdoor events. The Meteorological Department recommends that people stay informed through official channels for real-time weather updates.
