PESHAWAR: As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, the hustle and bustle in the markets of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached its peak and large number of people flocked to markets to buy sweets, bakeries and essentials garments for their kids and family members.
With a few days left for Eid-ul-Fitr, a huge rush of buyers is being seen in the commercial centers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There is no place after Iftar in the historical markets of Peshawar, Qissa Khawani, Saddar, University Road and Karkhano Market till late at night.
Due to high cost of tailoring (Rs. 2000 to 2500 per suit) and the closure of new bookings, a large number of citizens have turned to ready-made clothes. The traditional Peshawari slippers are at the top of men’s shopping. Branded slippers cost between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000, while cheaper alternatives are also available in general markets.
Women and men are seeing a craze for cashmere bangles and kaftan-style dresses. Social media trends have led to a phenomenal increase in demand for these items. Although the markets are very crowded, traders say that due to inflation, people are only making essential purchases. There is also a heavy rush of the poor and middle class in Landa Bazaars and cheap markets.
The Peshawar administration has formed special teams to prevent parking problems and overpricing in the markets. However, citizens have demanded control over the arbitrary prices of tailors and shopkeepers.
