The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formally rejected Barrister Gohar Khan’s claim to the chairmanship of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in response to his recent letter.

On November 13, Barrister Gohar submitted a request for the formal recognition of independent senators joining PTI.

However, the ECP stated that the issue of PTI’s intra-party elections is still unresolved and that the party is currently subject to a stay order from the Lahore High Court regarding this matter.

In its response, the ECP clarified that under the present circumstances, Barrister Gohar cannot be recognized as the legitimate chairman of PTI, and therefore, he does not have the legal authority to make requests on behalf of the party.

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Barrister Gohar appealed to the Chief Justice Peshawar High Court to declare the disqualification notification of the Election Commission as null and void and decide the case as per the merit and spirit of the constitution.

Presenting arguments in the court, Barrister Gohar said that they were suddenly showered with several cases without hearing their point of view, as they requested that the real culprits be punished after investigation, but their request was not accepted.
