PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has imposed fine on Senator Murtaza Javed Abbasi from PML-N for his inappropriate behavior during the by-election campaign in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

At the suggestion of the District Monitoring Officer (DMO), Senator Abbasi met him

The DMO ordered the fine to be paid to the government treasury by November 27 and a challan to be submitted as a receipt of the payment.

The event is a reaction to the report that Senator Abbasi used offensive language against a female candidate when he addressed a public gathering during his ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌campaign.

ECP issues media guidelines ahead of by-elections

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a code of conduct for media outlets in light of the upcoming by-elections scheduled tomorrow, on 23rd November, in several constituencies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.

According to the guidelines, no media organization is allowed to broadcast unofficial results from polling stations until at least one hour after voting closes.

According to ECP guidelines, any dissemination of such results must clearly indicate that they are partial and unofficial.

Media outlets have been informed that any violation of these instructions may prompt the Commission to take appropriate disciplinary action through the relevant authorities.

The ECP also emphasized that the official and final results of any constituency can only be announced by the respective returning officer.

The National Assembly constituencies where the by-elections are going to be held are NA-18 Haripur, NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal, NA-185 Dera Ghazi Khan, NA-96 Faisalabad, and NA-104 Faisalabad.

Provincial Assembly constituencies include PP-98, PP-115, PP-116, PP-73 Sargodha, PP-87 Mianwali, PP-203 Sahiwal, and PP-269 Muzaffargarh.
