ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-supported members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly as independent, which has taken a new direction in the political situation in the province.

The Election Commission has released the party positions of all four provincial assemblies, including the National Assembly. According to the list released, the PTI-supported members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have been declared independent in light of the Supreme Court’s August 25, 2024, decision. Only one member of the Sunni Ittehad Council has been shown as a party representative in the list.
After this decision of the Election Commission, many questions have arisen about the party position and future political alignment in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. According to analysts, this development may further deepen political uncertainty in the province.
On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur resigned yesterday on the instructions of Chairman PTI Imran Khan, who is currently awaiting the approval of Governor Faisal Karim Kundi. According to sources, the governor will take a final decision on the resignation after consulting on constitutional and legal points.
On the other hand, the new Chief Minister nominated by the PTI, Sohail Afridi, has started consultative meetings at the government and party levels to formulate a new political strategy.
In connection with political activities, the Leader of the Opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Ibadullah, also met Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, in which detailed discussions were held on the current political situation and the future situation of the assembly.
