PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued a schedule for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local government by-elections to take place on October 19 this year.
The ECP on Monday issued a notification for the appointment of District Monitoring Officers to oversee the third by-elections, which aim to fill vacant seats in various Neighbourhood and Village Councils across various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the statement issued by the spokesperson for the ECP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the elections are scheduled to take place on October 19, 2025. The scrutiny of nomination papers will occur from September 16 to September 18, 2025. A list of candidates whose nomination papers have been accepted will be published on September 19, 2025.
It said that candidates will have the opportunity to file appeals regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers from September 20 to September 23, 2025. The decisions on these appeals will be made by September 26, 2025.
The statement adds that candidates may withdraw their nomination papers by September 29, 2025, and the final list of candidates, along with the allotment of election symbols, will be released on September 30, 2025.
Polling will take place on October 19, 2025, and the returning officers will announce the final results on October 22, 2025.

According to the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan, there is a ban on promotions and transfers of government employees in these districts during this election period. Furthermore, public officials, including the Prime Minister, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of both the National and Provincial Assemblies, and Federal and Provincial Ministers, are prohibited from attending council meetings or announcing development projects in the areas until after the elections.
