PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Election Commission has announced the schedule for the by-election of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senate General seat following the disqualification of Shibli Faraz.

According to details, the general polling for the open Senate seat will take place on October 30, 2025 in accordance with ECP notification.

Nomination will be done on October 8 and 9, 2025, while the exhibition of the list of proposed candidates will take place on October 10.

The nomination papers will be scanned on October 13. Appeals against acceptance/rejection of papers must be made on October 15 and all appeals will be heard on October 17.

It is worth mentioning that in August, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took a major step against key leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in light of the Supreme Court’s decision and disqualified 9 members, including opposition leaders, in the Senate and the National Assembly.

The list includes the Opposition Leader in the Senate, Shibli Faraz and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, who have been disqualified along with other leaders, and their seats have been deemed vacant.

Other members who have been disqualified include Rai Haider Ali Khan, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, Zartaj Gul, Muhammad Ansar Iqbal (Member of Punjab Assembly), Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal and Junaid Akbar Sahi.

According to a statement issued by the Election Commission, all these disqualifications were implemented under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution.
