ISLAMABAD: The federal government has given final approval to a financial package worth billions of rupees for the affected families of missing persons as a major humanitarian measure.

This decision was taken in the meeting Economic Coordination Committee. The summary presented by the Ministry of Interior was approved in a special meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by the Federal Finance Minister. The meeting decided that a total of Rs 4.77 billion 50 million will be paid to the families of 945 missing persons.

According to the government announcement, each affected family included in the verified list will be given financial assistance of Rs 5 million per person. This amount has been directed to be released immediately through “Technical Supplementary Grant”.

The meeting also decided that this amount will be paid to the affected families in total that they can meet their financial needs. Even if a missing person returns safely in the future, the amount given to the family will not be taken back.

NADRA and other relevant agencies have been directed to provide full support to these families in their legal documents and banking matters.This decision has been taken in light of the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the recommendations of the high-level federal committee established to resolve the issue of missing persons.

The government maintains that this measure aims to provide financial assistance to those families whose breadwinners have been missing for a long time and are facing severe financial difficulties.
