PESHAWAR: A 6.3 magnitude earthquake, with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, jolted parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving a woman critically injured, said officials

In Swat’s Matta tehsil, a house roof collapsed in the College Colony area, trapping a woman beneath the rubble. Rescue teams, assisted by local residents, recovered her and shifted her to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Matta.

Officials said her condition was critical and she was later referred to Saidu Sharif Hospital for advanced medical care.

In Buner district, six individuals five women and one man were brought to hospital following the tremor.

According to medical authorities, most of the cases were linked to panic attacks caused by the earthquake. Two patients were discharged after receiving first aid, while others remained under treatment.

One woman suffered a metatarsal fracture in her foot, while another sustained minor injuries to her shoulder.

Separately, in Peshawar, a wall of the historic Raj Kapoor Haveli was damaged during the quake. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had announced plans in 2020 to acquire and convert the ancestral homes of actors Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor into museums.

Despite the approval of funds last year for restoration, work on preserving and developing the heritage sites has yet to be completed.

Severe tremors of the earthquake were felt in various districts of the province, including the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar, and its environs.

The earthquake caused panic among the citizens, and people came out of their homes, offices, and shops while reciting Kalima Tayyaba.

Apart from Peshawar, the tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Swat, Shangla, Charsadda, Bajaur, Lakki Marwat, Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Mardan, Nowshera, and Kalam.
