PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Wednesday predicted dry, cold weather in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and there is an increased likelihood of intensified smog and fog.
According to the PDMA report, the smog situation is expected to persist in the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, Mardan, and Dera Ismail Khan.
Visibility has been further reduced on the M-1 Motorway and GT Road during the night and morning hours due to fog and smog. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a letter to all district administrations to take preventive measures and has advised the public to exercise caution.
The rise in smog has been declared harmful, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues and asthma. The public is urged to avoid unnecessary outings and to use N95 or KN95 masks for protection against smog.
Additionally, it is advised to keep windows and doors closed and to avoid burning candles or wood at home. Special precautions are recommended for elderly individuals and children during this smoggy period.
The public is also encouraged to utilise carpooling and public transportation to help reduce traffic congestion. Instructions have been issued to intensify actions against industrial smoke and garbage burning. Furthermore, there are directives to conduct awareness campaigns in schools regarding the impacts of smog.
