ISLAMABAD: Atleast 30 kg of drugs have been seized and 28 FIRs registered in the last two years within the boundaries of Quaid-e-Azam University, the country’s largest university.

Police officials told the Senate Standing Committee on Rules, Regulations and Privileges Sub-committee that 48 students are currently residing in hostels illegally in Quaid-e-Azam University.

‎Police officials, while giving a briefing in the Senate Standing Com said mittee on Rules, Regulations and Privileges, revealed that 1709 acres of Quaid-e-Azam University’s land is currently under encroachment. Police officials, while giving a briefing, said that 28 FIRs on drugs have been registered within the boundaries of Quaid-e-Azam University in the last two years. 30 kg of ice, heroin and hashish have been recovered within the boundaries of Quaid-e-Azam University. There are currently encroachments on 1709 acres of Quaid-e-Azam University’s land. Police officials said that 48 students are currently occupying hostels illegally.

The meeting also reviewed the allegations of derogatory remarks made by Acting Vice Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University Zafar Nawaz Jaspal against senators. The concerned Acting Vice Chancellor apologized in writing to the standing committee. The Vice Chancellor of Quaid-e-Azam University told the committee that public representatives are highly respected by us. Student councils have no legal basis in universities.

He said that Quaid-e-Azam University is the best educational institution in the country. If there is a fight between students, we make peace. Giving details of the incident, the Vice Chancellor said that the university was closed after a dispute between bilingual groups of students.

About 79 students were named in the FIR of the incident, which has been settled. My university has not been closed in the last three years. When the convening committee asked about people living illegally in hostels, the Vice Chancellor said that about 8 to 9 people were living illegally in the university hostels.
