PESHAWAR: Prime Minister’s Coordinator on Information and Broadcasting on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Affairs, Ikhtiar Wali Khan, has expressed concern over the growing drug trade in Khyber district, saying that Khyber district has become a major hub for drug smuggling across the country, and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) people are also involved in the drug trade.

In a statement, Ikhtiar Wali called for the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take immediate action against drug smuggling in Khyber district. He highlighted that large drug factories have been established in the Tirah Valley, and there are also ready-to-harvest crops on land owned by the Chief Minister.

He further said that former Chief Ministers Ali Amin and Mahmood Khan could not take any effective steps in this regard, and drug cultivation is going on in more than 3,500 acres of land in Khyber district.

Ikhtiar Wali warned that illegal drug money is not only used in terrorism and attacks on the state in the country, but is also being transferred across the border.

He urged the government to take immediate steps, seal drug factories in Tirah Valley and Khyber District, and take strict legal action against those involved in the drug trade.

The issue has posed a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies at the provincial level. Political circles have noted that the problem of drug production and trafficking in Khyber District has worsened due to the local administration’s lack of attention.
