An Indian drone resembling with Israeli Model Heron UAV crashed on the outskirts of Maidan Shahr, the capital of Maidan Wardak province, Afghanistan.
According to images from the scene, the drone resembles an Israeli-made Heron UAV. Defense analysts and some reports suggest that India is the only country in the region that uses this model extensively. It has been claimed that Israel provided these drones to India in May this year under the guise of “humanitarian aid”. The downing of this drone in Afghanistan is reinforcing allegations that India may be involved in efforts to interfere in neighbouring countries and destabilize the region.
It should be remembered that during the Pak-India tension in May 2025, there were reports of Israeli-made ‘Harop’ drones being shot down in Pakistan from the Indian border. Only after a formal examination of the wreckage by the Afghan authorities or the Taliban government will it be clear who the operator of this drone was and for what mission it was on.
If it is proven that this drone belonged to India, it will have profound implications for the relations between Kabul and Delhi as well as regional security.
