NEW YORK: A‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ newly released study has indicated that drinking tea every day can contribute to lowering the risk of bone-related problems compared to people who consume coffee.

The study that was carried out by Flinders University in the U.S. found that people who regularly consume tea tend to have higher mineral levels and bone density than those who do not consume tea. The research indicates that even by just having one cup of tea daily the bone health will be positively affected with the increase of one’s age.

Moreover, the investigation announced the consequences of coffee consumption on bone density. It says that in a case of moderate coffee consumption, bone density will not be much affected, but if the number of cups of coffee exceeds five, then the mineral density will decrease, thus the susceptibility to fractured bones will be higher.

The research reviewed data from 10,000 women aged 65 and over who have been followed for ten years. The results demonstrated that the bone density of women who consumed tea frequently was better than those who drank other beverages. The researchers found that although the difference in bone density was quite small, fracture risks might be lowered even by a slight increase in bone density.

Experts point out that it is not a problem to have coffee in moderation but they advise keeping away from excessive intake, especially if you are a woman. They indicate that the outcomes of the research should not be interpreted as a reason for quitting coffee or over-consuming tea instead if one decides to take tea, it is a simple and effective way of supporting bone health.

Calcium and vitamin D are known to be the main contributors to bone health; however, the study implies that even one cup of tea per day could bring about a considerable ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌change.
