Dispute Resolution Council, a traditional Police Jirga system, is playing an important role in the reconciliation process and handled 2681 applications while resolving 11991 disputes in the last 11-12-year period since 2014.

The DRC Jirga system was established in the provincial capital Peshawar in 2014 with the aim of peaceful resolution of Pakhtun traditions and local disputes, the main objective of which is to resolve public issues at the doorsteps of the house with mutual consent, understanding, and amicable manner.

Later, this system was expanded, and today, in 7 DRCs of Peshawar district, respected, reputable, and virtuous members are playing an important role in obtaining justice free of charge, which has resulted in significant and positive results. The services of DRC members are commendable.

According to the data, a total of 12681 applications have been received by the DRCs so far, out of which 11991 applications have been successfully resolved through mutual understanding. Besides this, 5112 applications for property/property issues have been received, out of which 5009 have been resolved. Issues related to 16054 kanals of land have been resolved.

4371 applications for money/transactions have been received, out of which 4252 have been resolved. Recovery/settlement of Rs. 1 billion 586.8 million and US dollars 654 thousand have been made possible in the cases. 2703 applications for domestic disputes have been received, out of which 2257 have been resolved. 164 applications related to vehicle cases have been received, out of which 162 have been resolved. 331 applications for other types of issues have been received, out of which 311 have been resolved.

CCPO Peshawar Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmed said that DRCs are an effective platform for peace, mutual understanding, and quick resolution of disputes according to Pakhtun traditions. The solution of public problems at their doorsteps is the biggest success of the DRC system. Honorable members are providing justice-based services to the citizens free of cost, which is commendable. The trust of thousands of citizens in the DRC is a testimony to the efficiency of this system.

He further said that, along with the people of character, representatives of the minority community, women, traders, and transgender community have also been included in the DRC, so that the problems of every section of society can be resolved on a priority basis. All resources are being utilized to make the DRCs more functional and effective.
