PESHAWAR: Dr. Ibadullah, Leader of Opposition in the provincial assembly, strongly asserted that negotiations with terrorists should not be entertained at any cost.
While attending the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga, Dr Ibad underlined that the jirga is definitely a big step towards settling the issues of the region, but he could not agree more that terrorism is a matter that has to be tackled by the law at all costs, even if that means justice has to be sacrificed.
“We must not sit down and discuss with the terrorists. Those who murder our children and, wreak havoc in our homes are the ones who should never be pardoned.” Dr. Ibadullah
In a speech, Dr. Ibadullah expressed his support for the peace jirga, which is a historic moment of co-operation among the parties in the provincial assembly, as the political leaders of all parties met under one roof to discuss peace and security issues in the region. His stance was quite powerful when he expressed that talking to terrorists was out of the question, but he nevertheless believed that the peace talks would lead to the province’s stability.
Dr. Ibadullah was rather certain that the war on terror had not only gone through the political line of division but had also brought the parties together in their unified goal of exterminating terror. He regarded the matter as the most significant for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
“Only one agenda is there for our gathering today: the search for a way to let peace work.” Moreover, we even sat together with PTI in coming up with the solutions that would benefit our province,” he stated.
Additionally, he pronounced the peace jirga as a non-political platform for making a mutual blueprint of the future of the province. The opinions of Dr. Ibadullah pointed out that the security threats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should be dealt with in a manner that is both just and respectful to the people’s rights.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga was unprecedented in the provincial assembly, as it brought together the leaders of not only the majority but also the minority parties. The assembly’s primary objective was to seek consensus on the problems causing insecurity in the region and the best way to foster peace all over the province. Along with this, the event invited national media to report the event to ensure that locals have access to information about the peace efforts.
“It is time we threw all our political differences into the dustbin and came up with a united approach towards the peace-building endeavor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Dr. Ibadullah made the closing remarks.
