KHYBER: Taking strict action against alleged bribery and misuse of authority from transit vehicles on the Pak-Afghan highway, District Police Officer (DPO) Khyber Waqar Ahmed has suspended 9 police personnel with immediate effect.

According to details released by the DPO office, this action was taken on public complaints and reports received from drivers plying on the highway. During the action, 3 officials posted at Ali Masjid Prangsim check post, while 6 officials of Charwazgai post located under the limits of Landi Kotal police station were suspended.

The said officials are accused of allegedly demanding bribes from Afghan vehicles and leaving the vehicles without a queue in exchange for money.

DPO Khyber Waqar Ahmed has ordered a transparent and impartial inquiry into the incident and made it clear that there is no place for black sheep in the police force. He warned in a stern tone that no official will be allowed to indulge in corruption or public exploitation and strict departmental and legal action will be taken against those involved once the inquiry is completed.

Public circles have appreciated this move of DPO Khyber and expressed hope that it will bring transparency in the movement of people on the Pak-Afghan highway and corruption will be eradicated.
